Trauma Informed Movement Class
Would you like to feel fully focused, effective, able to keep your thoughts on track, stop your emotions from derailing your day and increasingly reduce being triggered?
Instead of feeling focused has Anxiety got you feeling -
* Unable to control your thoughts?
* Sleep Deprived?
* Alone / Isolated?
* Without access to rational thoughts?
* Lethargic and No Motivation?
And is Depression bombing your day with these emotions-
* All of the above plus a dark fog enveloping you?
* Zero Motivation?
* Unable to connect with others?
* Wanting to hide from the world?
* Unable to move your body?
* A deep hole in your soul?
Bottom Line: Due to Overwhelm in Childhood parts of our brain need to be retrained to work together so that Anxiety and Depression can begin to decrease in our lives.
The Technical Explanation: These symptoms occur when our brain perceives a lack of safety in our environment irrespective of whether it's true as an adult or not. The primitive part of our brain signals other areas of the brain to go into fight/flight/freeze mode in order to protect us.
This trigger developed deep in our brains, at a time in our lives where we felt overwhelmed. When we had neither the language nor ability to understand and process what was happening to us and/or around us.
Now, as Adults though, the trigger becomes incredibly frustrating, causing us to have an anxiety attack or depression attack out of the blue. Why is the past effecting us now when we have the ability to feel safe, happy and content?
Why does our brain not get on board with our lives, here, and now? How can we get our brain retrained not to have the trigger response and enjoy living our best lives?
Trauma Informed Movement, Why?
Our mind-brain connection has spent so many years operating out of Hyperarousal or Hypoarousal that our Amygdala (Emotions) and Prefrontal Cortex (Cognition, order) aren't used to working in tandem together. Every time we're triggered the chemical reaction means our emotions and logic/cognition aren't connected.
This lack of connection between the Amygdala and the Prefrontal Cortex makes it impossible for us to do any number of things like:
* think rationally and make rational decisions
* to put our emotions in order
*to have balance in the body
* to be restful and at peace,
* to have an order in our day to day life
*to be able to coordinate our life and feel effective
It's not our fault that this happens, but we absolutely can choose to retrain our brain to become used to operating from the space of connection giving us the ability to live the life we choose to live.
I, Linda, developed Trauma Informed Movement for my brain to be able to heal and operate minus triggers and improve my concentration time, ability to work and more. Without Trauma Informed Movement I'd still be unable to function and continually increase my ability to function in day to day life. I wish I'd had Trauma Informed Movement when my kids were young! I would never have lost all my cognitive function and needed a full time carer had this information been available years ago.
Will Trauma Informed Movement help me in Therapy? Yes, you will find over time that as your Prefrontal Cortex and Amygdala are connected your mind becomes increasingly crystal clear and can sustain it for longer periods of time, plus you'll feel good. In your therapy work your strategies and actions you want to achieve can actually be carried through more consistently.
How often should I do the Trauma Informed Movement? Depending on where you are in recovery will be the determining factor. Most clients begin with one or two sessions a week. Three is great progress and currently I'm finding that 3 is shifting things body, brain and soul level. There is no pressure. Your body and brain are your guides.
Am I ready for Trauma Informed Movement? The answer lies in are you determined to reclaim your life or would you like another year of sameness? None of us begins putting healthy change into place until we've had enough of what we're doing already - that's us in our humanness. If needed please always consult with your health care professionals.
Does Trauma Informed Movement hurt? No. We do movements that are constant and flowing and use our breathing to determine how quickly or slowly we need to move as an individual. It's the constant movement in the whole body workout combined with mindful breathing in the safety of our home that makes this effective.
